Program Description
Prepare for the upcoming total solar eclipse with this presentation from Rick Galloway of the Indiana Astronomical Society. Learn how to safely view an eclipse, why an eclipse happens (and why they don't happen more often), eclipses in history, and how to prepare for the big day. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for Q&A. Free solar eclipse viewing glasses will be available to attendees.
Galloway is a member of the Indiana Astronomical Society and the IAS Solar Eclipse Committee. His love for astronomy developed long ago when he looked up at the heavens on a very dark night and saw the Milky Way and various planets. IAS offers the opportunity to share and learn about one of the most ancient and, at the same time, most contemporary of sciences. Their membership includes people of all ages and in many types of professions, with a goal of making the study of astronomy both fun and rewarding.
This program is presented as part of the Susie Billings Lecture Series, devoted to the memory of Susie, who was the treasurer of the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library for many years.
