Program Description

Hancock County Extension Homemakers present a lecture on human trafficking by Heather Maravilla, Regional Coalition Coordinator for the Indiana Trafficking Victims Assistance Program (ITVAP). Maravilla provides firsthand experience on the prevalence of trafficking in our culture and the tactics used to groom children, teens and even adults into the trade. Maravilla's talk will include the Actions, Means, & Purpose (AMP) model, the new CHINS (child in need of service) designation, youth populations most vulnerable to human trafficking, how to recognize red flags, and ways in which ITVAP can support your agency.

Heather Maravilla is a Lived-Experienced Expert in Domestic Sex Trafficking and Domestic Violence. She is an author, speaker, and spoken word artist. Heather is the author of; “Love’s Redeemed Daughter the Reflections of Nyla” and “The Sapphire & Scarlet Letters”. Both books are poetry from her life experiences. She has a third book called, “Words Have Wings”, which uses poetry & creative writing as a tool to help victims/survivors process trauma through journaling.

Heather Maravilla has worked in the anti-trafficking field for 6 years in a variety of roles. Currently, she works for Indiana’s Trafficking Victim Assistance Program as a Regional Coordinator covering Marion and the surrounding Counties. ITVAP provides Human Trafficking trainings and case coordination to community stakeholders throughout Indiana.
