Program Description

Darryll Baker, owner of the 1939 Chevrolet team bus from the movie Hoosiers, will give a talk on the bus's history. While it did in fact start its life as a school bus in Indiana, it also served as an RV for the Baker family for 36 years. After restoration and appearing in the film Hoosiers, the bus has spent the last quarter century reliving history and being showcased with the Indiana Pacers, the Indy 500, and many parades and car shows. Darryll will be joined by Neil Shaneyfelt, president of the board of directors of the Hoosier Gym Community Center of Knightstown.

Weather permitting, the bus will be on display; and Darryll will be available for questions before the program from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Darryll graduated from Lebanon High School in 1976 and Purdue in Engineering in 1980. He was a naval officer based out of Pearl Harbor from 1980-1986 and served on three separate ships. Following that he joined the Department of State/Foreign Service in 1986 and served in a variety of tours in South America, the Middle East, South Asia and Europe until retiring at the end of 2009. He worked as a contractor for GDIT until February 2021 before fully retiring and moving back to Indiana after 41 years. He currently lives in Greenfield and partners with the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown to support Indiana Basketball.
