Program Description
Join us for a presentation by Red Nose Studio artist Chris Sickels, followed by an unveiling of the newest character in our Over, Under and Beyond art installation outside the Children's Room.
Sickels is a Greenfield-based illustrator who publishes his work under the name Red Nose Studio. He'll explain how he sculpts 3-D figures and elaborate scenes from clay, wood, wire, paper, paint, and an eclectic collection of found objects, bringing images to life "with textures, light and elbow grease."
His work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, and HOW. The Society of Illustrators has awarded three golds and a silver medal for both illustrative and motion work. The stop-motion animated films have screened at various festivals including the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and Montreal Stop-Motion Film Festival. Sickels has recently authored and illustrated the picture book BUILD! along with The Look Book, and has illustrated the children's books Here Comes The Garbage Barge, The Beginner’s Guide to Running Away From Home, The Secret Subway, and Elvis is King!
This presentation and the installation of Over, Under and Beyond are sponsored by the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library as part of the Susie Billings Lecture Series. This series is devoted to the memory of Susie, who was the treasurer of the Friends for many years.
