Program Description

Join us for an exploration into the rich and diverse world of Native American archaeology in East Central Indiana. Local archaeology enthusiast Tom Van Duyn will share his knowledge of Hancock County's indigenous peoples and their ancient cultures, from paleolithic tribes 14,000 years ago to European contact. He will also discuss his hands-on experiences with excavations and his studies of Wyandotte chert, a high-quality flint which was extensively traded throughout the midwest for its use in arrowheads and other tools.

Tom Van Duyn is a Greenfield resident and has spent decades researching regional archaeology. He is a current member of the Upper White River Archaeological Society, vice president of the Hancock County Cemetery Board, and is a board member of the Hancock County Historical Society. Tom will bring along several boxes of artifacts for display.
