Program Description

At the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine, take a grand adventure of story, song and first-person living history with Kevin Stonerock. His skillful performance blurs the distinction between past and present and momentarily immerses the audience in life on the Ohio River from the frontier era through the glorious age of steam and showboats. Meet four rollicking river characters, including a keelboat man, a steamboat passenger on the J.M. White, a showboat barker from the 1890s, and steamboat captain Ebenezer Cline.

Since 1980, with over 4,000 performances to his credit, Stonerock has brought history to life for thousands of young people and adults. He has the unique ability to connect with young and old in a captivating manner that feeds their curiosity to learn more.

Stonerock interprets the past in authentic period clothing with proper accouterments in first-person style. A high degree of historic authenticity has been achieved as a result of hours of research and attention to detail and dialect.

This event is brought to you by the History Speaker Series in partnership with County Historian Joe Skvarenina and the Summer Songteller Series, co-sponsored by the Friends of Hancock County Public Library in conjunction with the "Universe of Stories" summer reading club. Adults can join the club and earn entries in prize drawings for books they've read and events attended throughout June and July.
