Program Description

Traveler’s Dream presents a treasury of heartwarming songs to celebrate the winter season.  Listeners will enjoy the festive sounds of traditional carols from the Celtic lands as well as lively jigs and reels played on the Irish flute, concertina, and tin whistle.  Michael Lewis and Denise Wilson share how each song relates to ancient traditions and unique holiday customs of Ireland, Wales, England, and Brittany.  This mix of familiar favorites and uncommon musical gems gives voice to a wide variety of traditions and captures the wondrously mystical nature of Celtic spirituality.  Like a soothing mug of warm wassail, these songs will kindle the holiday spirit with their messages of hope, good cheer, the beauty of winter, and the joyful gathering of family and friends!

Seating is limited, please register to reserve your spot.

Classic favorites rooted in Old World Europe include the English carols “I Saw Three Ships” and “Good King Wenceslas.” From Wales comes “Deck the Halls,” and from France “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella” (sung in the original French version). Nestled seamlessly alongside these traditional carols are three original songs written by Michael Lewis. His poetic lyrics will strike a chord with everyone who shares his love of Midwestern winter landscapes and his appreciation of the magical qualities of the winter season.

Many of the songs at this event are featured on Traveler's Dream's album, Cold Blows the Day: Songs and Carols Celebrating the Winter Season. Listen to the album before the concert at https://www.travelersdream.net/cold-blows-the-day
