Program Description

Talk to Hancock County's official historian, Joe Skvarenina, about the past. He will be available for informal conversations on local history.

Skvarenina was named winner of the 2015 Hubert Hawkins History Award from the Indiana Historical Society, given to a local historian for distinguished service during his or her career in local history. Skvarenina has been the county historian since 1992. He serves on the boards of the Hancock County Historical Society, Indiana National Road Assn., Shirley Historical Society and Riley Old Home Society.

He recently authored a book with genealogist Paul McNeil, reseached by Cindi Faunce, called 120 Year History of the Hancock County Public Library. Copies are for sale on the "Friends of the Library" bookshelf for $10.
